A ethnic maximalist home for a couple with twin daughters and a dog. This site is a resale condominium with a size of 1400 sqft. Interesting point of the site is that the patio space can be accessible from the living and bedrooms in one linear plane.
The couple loves to hosts guests over so the large patio space provides an opportunity to integrate the interior to the exterior for guests to mingle from the inside to the outside. Their project requirement is that there should be minimal hacking works and placing more emphasis on styling loose furniture.
Aligned with client requirement, there is minimal hacking only the yard wall is hacked to allow for a sensible flow in the kitchen. As there is no direct sunlight in the kitchen we can have a half height window at the wall along the sink side. The shoe cabinet is combine with the tv console with space for seating for ease of wearing shoes. The living is also swap with the dining since they spend most of their time at the patio so the space will be more cohesive when guests mingle around the area. At the same time the dining can open up to a grand patio space as well. One dislike the client have with the existing site is that the master bathroom is fully expose with glass partitions so all the proposed layouts will aim to enclose the bathroom.
For option 2, when entering the house, they will be greeted with a drop off area combined with a shoe cabinet. A peninsula acts as a casual dining space and the kitchen is further open up to allow even more light to enter. The main dining space is at the patio since they spend most time there and will be easier for guests to dine when they have BBQ party as well. Keeping with the original layout where living is by the patio still allows guests to mingle from the outside to the inside
This kitchen layout is same as option 1 but there is a pass through window for bar seating looking into the kitchen which allows for interaction across kitchen to dining. More dining space is added behind the bar counter for easy access near kitchen for situations when serving hot soup this placement will be ideal.
